Moving and grooving.
The Vermont Racial Justice Housing Jam is unfolding in the most wonderful and the most unexpected ways. We love the fact that when we set out on a project we never really know where it’s going to take us. We love the fact that just even putting a desire and a wish out there stimulates so many good relationships, so much good learning, and so much positivity for the future. Last week we were visited by Dr. Ted Rutland from Concordia University in Montreal. It was the best Ted talk I’ve ever experienced. We were also joined by Xusana Davis, Executive Director, VT Office of Racial Equity, and Tom Proctor (cameo-style), Housing Justice Organizer for Rights and Democracy. Here is a link to the webinar for your weekend viewing pleasure. Watch webinar 3: From Slavery to Tenancy.
We have two more webinars to bring to the public. Feb 2nd Dr. Valesca Lima from Dublin City University will be in the house leading us through a discussion about how we can ‘De-commodify Our Right to Shelter’. And then, to round things off in grand style, on Feb 16th we will welcome Leah Rothstein who has co-authored with her amazing Dad, ‘Just Action’. This is the sequel to Richard Rothstein’s The Color of Law.
We will spend time with Leah learning from her what their advice is for just action. And, we have also invited back our past Vermont Racial Justice Housing Jam speakers for one final panel discussion. So far this will include Tony Pickett and Shanti Abedin. Stay tuned and sign up for the last two webinars here.
